Rachel  Jafta (Chairperson)  (Executive Committee, Finance Committee)

Rachel Jafta is an Associate Professor in Economics at the University of Stellenbosch. She holds a B. Econ (Hons) from the University of the Western Cape, an M. Econ and a PhD (Economics) from the University of Stellenbosch.

At the University of Stellenbosch, she has received the award for excellence in research and community service, respectively. Since 2004, she has won the award for excellence in teaching each year. She will receive the Rector's Award for excellence in Community Interaction for 2008 on the 18th of November. She is the founder of two large community development trusts and serves on the board of trustees of various non-government/non-profit organisations.

Prof. Jafta maintains close ties with academic institutions in Europe and the United States, but is also involved in private sector activities, including as non-executive director of a large company with global links in media and advanced technology. Prof. Jafta has extensive consulting and research experience in trade and competition issues, regulatory economics, as well as technology management. Her research interests are in industrial economics, economics of innovation, international trade and Black Economic Empowerment. She has published in these fields.

Rachel Jafta is proficient in English, Afrikaans and Italian.

Isabel Meyer (CEO) (All Committees)

Isabel(la) Meyer is the owner and managing director of her own consultancy, Mayaluga Consulting.  The consultancy provides business & marketing strategy services, programme management services, IT, internet and mobility consulting and marketing communications services.

Isabel has worked for a variety of large corporate firms in the span of her career, including Vodacom as brand manager, Dimension Data on a GBP45 million international project as e-commerce analyst, Eskom as project manager and FNB as IT Marketing Manager.

She has crossed the Atlantic on a sail yacht, is renowned for her charity parties and loves the One that loves.

As Programme Manager for the inaugural Cape Town Carnival, her motto is “Go BIG or go Home!!”  No-one is going home

Fritz Marx (Executive Committee, Logistics Committee)

Fritz Marx studies at the University of Stellenbosch and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree of Arts (Law) and an Honours Degree in Public Administration.

He joined the Provincial Administration of the Western Cape in 1982 as Assistant-Director and in 1994 became the Private Secretary of the Minister of local Government. In January of 1998 he was appointed as Director for Ministerial Services for the Minister of Health and in 2000 he joined the City of Cape Town as Manager of the Office of the Executive Mayor where he currently holds the title of Head of Protocol and Mayoral Events.

Themba Nolutshungu (Community Committee)

Temba A Nolutshungu has served as non executive director in various companies including the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, Langeberg Holdings.  In his full time capacity he is a director of the Free Market Foundation and the Strategic Economic & Environmental Research Services.  He is also the chairman of the Langa Heritage Foundation and serves as a trustee for various other organisations.

He has presented numerous papers on economic policy issues that have seen him travel to various countries.  He regularly produces written comments and articles on contemporary policy issues.  

Craig Lemboe (Finance Committee)

Craig is in the process of completing a Master’s degree in Economics at Stellenbosch University after finishing a BCom Honours (Economics) degree at the University of the Western Cape. He has been involved with the Cape Town Carnival since 2007 as part of the initial research team. He currently works as an Economist at Wesgro, the Western Cape Trade and Investment Promotion agency, and is also active in the community and has a passion for community and human development.

Strategically approaches challenges, optimising his passionate nature to achieve set goals.
