What is Carnival 2020 all about?

Take your imagination by surprise as 1000s of performers bring art, passion, music and magic to the streets of Green Point, Cape Town. From marimba to marabi, uhadi to riel, this years’ theme, Incredible Journey: Sounds of South Africa, showcases the sounds, music, dance and art of our country, each of which is so powerful and distinct it connects us to our past, our future, our country, and each other.

Get yourself ready.

Not just our performers can dress up.

Throw on a mask, find your facepaint, wrap yourself in a feather boa – whatever you wear, make sure you’re in your comfiest dancing shoes because there’s a lot to celebrate.

What to Expect.

  • Come enjoy the freedom of the city streets from 3pm as Green Point Main Road is closed off to cars and becomes a pedestrian paradise, filled with fun, food, music and magic.
  • At 7pm it’s Carnival time! This is when our unbelievable floats and 1000s of musicians, dancers, singers, and other performers take to the streets.
  • But the fun isn’t over yet. End the night with music and entertainment in the Cape Town Carnival Village (P12).
